CORE CONSIDERATIONS FOR ONCOLOGY ESTHETICS
1. Individualized care:
A cancer diagnosis alone does not tell us what a client's skin can tolerate. Treatment history, current medications, skin condition, and healthcare guidance should inform every decision.
2. Barrier support:
Gentle cleansing, hydration, and moisture retention are often priorities when the skin is experiencing treatment-related dryness or sensitivity.
3. Ingredient awareness:
Product selection should account for the complete formulation, the client's current skin condition, and any treatment-specific restrictions.
4. Treatment modifications:
Exfoliation, heat, massage, microneedling, and other modalities may require modification or avoidance depending on the client's circumstances.
5. Medical collaboration:
Clients undergoing active cancer treatment should receive clearance from their oncology team before professional skincare services. Any unexplained, severe, or worsening skin reactions should be referred for medical evaluation.
